Graduation Day
Getting my hair weave... the woman worked, mama supervised, and I sat
still!
The completed hair weave is a "chignon" or bun.
Konan, Affoue (my new name)...
the Akun Princess!
Akun is a local tribe,
and Affoue is the name for girls born on
Saturday in the
Baole tribe.

My host family with me on graduation day.
(Webmaster's
note: Check out the sign
in the background... Salle de Mariage?
Is Kate keeping
a secret???)

Jamie and I were definitely the
most decked out. Lots of
Africans
wanted their photo with me because
I looked so good!
|
My friends
Sarah Weber and
Ting Shen. Ting has on a modern
style made of traditional
fabric.
Sarah is dressed traditionally.

Post-Graduation
|
During a quick visit to Taabo, I unsuccessfully tried
to get the electricity
turned on in my apartment...
here's a blurry photo of the lamp I made!
=) |
At the beach - Women, children, and sometimes men carry everything
this way!
I have seen people carry items they could only lift with help on
their heads for miles!
They can stop, turn, talk, etc... usually without
touching the load!
(I had to wait until they passed to snap the pic.)
